Billed as "children's library in the world," International Children's Digital Library was established in late 2002.
In early July 2012, there were 4,643 children's books, written in 61 different languages, online on the website of the Library. According to Tim Browne, Executive Director of the ICDL "The goal of the ECDL Foundation to build a collection of books with historical and contemporary books of circulation of children throughout the world is, and on the Internet." (30 / 12/06 ICDL press release). The focus is on the exchange of books, help to learn about life in other countries and cultures, the children and help them understand and appreciate the diversity in our world.
Use your computer - No separate eReader required
In contrast to other books that can be accessed online, eReader is not required. No download books. Just search for and select the books you want and to play online. Even if you do not have to register to be able to choose and read books, there are some advantages. Among other things, you can select the language you want to use. Since the summer of 2012 books in the following languages (in order of preference of the users of the library): English, Spanish, Arabic, Persian, Chinese (simplified), French, Mongolian, Chinese (Traditional) Croatian, Portuguese Hebrew, German , Filipino, Russian, Thai and Italian. You can also configure and add books to your personal library. If your child starts a book, but stop reading before the end of the book, you can come back and pick up where you left off later to ICDL.

Using the ICDL library provides information on a variety of library activities. These include tips to help a digital age story of a group of children and the creation of a Savenger game, children learn their way around the site.The section shows the ICDL website lists thematic collections of children's books worldwide, information about each book and a number of related activities. On display are: the celebration of differences, the removal of the fence! (Overcoming difficulties) Everyone needs water and everyone always friendship, change and strong women and girls help seasons view, the world needs.
The ECDL is also a valuable resource for scholars and researchers studying literature and use available to children in a technology at the international level.
