Summary

Sun and Moon by Lindsey Yankey is a picture book that is successful at different levels: It is a good story. The illustrations are unforgettable. Since much of the story takes place at night and tone of the story is quiet and thoughtful, the sun and the moon is a great story. In addition, there are some subtle messages woven into the story. I recommend the Sun and Moon for children aged 3-6 years.

The editor recommends the book 4-8 years, and certainly see that interesting conversations at home and at school aroused.

History

Moon wants to swap places with the sun for a day. Too often it is the night to be a boring and lonely time. He is jealous when you think Sun enjoy colorful flowers, children playing and more during the day. When the moon turns to Sun, Sun is ready to negotiate only on two conditions:

  1. Not last trade for a day, but forever.
  2. Decides Against Moon to negotiate, Sun said, "... you have to spend a night in heaven watching closely with the earth -. Closer than ever"

What happens is when the moon does exactly that and recognize the beauty and the life around him at night makes for a very satisfying story. Young children will gain a new appreciation of the night, when the sun and moon to share with them and perhaps learn to appreciate above all by promoting the smooth and message to what you have.

The illustrations and author and illustrator Lindsey Yankey

Lindsey Yankey makes use of a variety of media to create art of his stylized and imaginative illustrations. Your selection strong and soft colors, yet whimsical details and dark blue for night scenes pictures give a dreamlike quality that complements the story. See more of his work the sun and moon on the website Lindsey Yankey.

He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Communication Design and Illustration at the University of Kansas (KU) in 2009 the sun and moon is a picture book of the second child Yankey both written and illustrated. My Recommendation

Sun and Moon by Lindsey Yankey is one of those books that young children want to hear again and again and again and to see that parents enjoy reading and share with them. For children who are a little worried about the dark, Yankey has some good reasons, in two words and images, to appreciate the beauty and dark night. Yankey also offers a subtle message about the importance of seeing and really appreciate what you desire rather than what someone else have. Share the sun and moon with their children both as a bedroom and a story at any time. (I just read books, 2015 ISBN: 9781927018606)

Other recommended picture books

Illustrates for bedtime, I also recommend, Goodnight Moon, by Margaret Wise Brown, the classics and by Clement Hurd. Read aloud rhyme pleasure, I recommend the Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler Superworm both represented. Eric Carle The Very Hungry CATERPILLAR illustrated another classic, I like how Crocklett Harold Johnson and Purple Crayon, Carrot Seed by Ruth Krauss, by Crockett Johnson and the little house of Virginia Lee Burton.

Everything connected with the tale of Cinderella

Whatever it is, the fairy tale of Cinderella is so attractive that it versions in many cultures, and the children beg their parents to read or tell the story of "just one more time"? After, when and where you grew up, your idea may be the Disney movie Cinderella, the fairy tale in the stories of the Brothers Grimm classic fairy tale by Charles Perrault, based on the Disney movie, or one of the other versions of Cinderella.

To make things even more complicated, asks a story a story of Cinderella does not mean that heroin is Cinderella. While Ashpet, rags Catskins and names may be familiar, it seems so many different names for the protagonist, as there are different versions of the story.

Elements of a Cinderella story

What makes a story is just a story of Cinderella? Although it seems that there are several interpretations of these, it seems, to general approval, we often have some elements of a Cinderella story. The main character is usually, but not always, a girl who is abused by her family. Cinderella is a good and kind person. His goodness will be rewarded with the magical help. It is recognized for its value for something they left behind (for example, a golden slipper). It is high in position by a real person who loves for her good qualities.

Changes History

I was surprised that in the late nineteenth century, changes in the history of publishing resist.

In 1891, the Folk-Lore Society in London Cinderella Marian Roalfe Cox published: 340-5 variants of Cinderella, Catskin and Cap 0 'Rushes, abstract and a table, with a discussion of similar and medieval Cinderella Bibliography Online notes Professor Russell. Peck gives you an idea of what makes a large number of versions. The bibliography that contain abstracts for most stories, including fundamental European texts, problems of children and modern adaptations, including versions of the Cinderella story in the world, and many other data.

The Cinderella Project

To compare some versions, visit the Cinderella project. It is a text file and image containing a dozen English versions of Cinderella. According to the site introduction, "The presented ashen represent some of the most common types of the Anglo-Saxon world history in the early twentieth century XVIII, XIX and. Materials, these files were to build from the Grummond research collection extracted children's literature at the University of Southern Mississippi . "

Another resource collection research literature Grummond Children Table is Cinderella: includes multicultural variants and versions that provide information about a number of versions of a variety of countries.

Other Resources Cinderella

Cinderella Stories Children's Literature Web Guide provides an excellent list of reference books, articles, picture books and online resources. One of the most comprehensive books children I have found is the Cinderella Judy Sierra, which is part of the series Oryx Multicultural Folktale is. Books contain eight pages fifty-nine versions of Cinderella stories from 25 different countries. The stories are good for reading aloud; no pictures of action, so that their children, to your imagination. The stories that did contain several pages of activities for children from 9 to 14 may also well in class, and the author. There is also a glossary and a bibliography, as well as background information.

Fairy tales and other versions is a product of the Brothers Grimm and his collection of tales written with an emphasis on other versions of Cinderella and resources.

Cinderella page on the website Folklore and Mythology Electronic Texts contains the texts of stories and related stories from a variety of different countries pursued heroines.

"Cinderella or The Little Glass Slipper" is an online version of the classic fairy tale by Charles Perrault, the Blue Fairy Book.

If your children or teens as fairytale story with a twist, often humorous to see fairy tales with a twist for high-end readers and modern fairy tales for young people.

Where the Wild: If your children ...

The cover for the event that the Wild Things Are - HarperCollins

Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak. HarperCollins

About.com Rating

Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak it became a classic. Winner of the Caldecott Medal in 1964 as "the most important book picture of the year" was first described by Harper Collins 1963 Description If the book was written, the question of the administration of the dark feelings was rare in children's literature, especially in the picture book format for toddlers.

History

But after more than 50 years, where the Wild Things are popular the impact of the work in the field of children's literature, the impact of the story and illustrations of young readers.

The plot of the game is based on (and real) imaginary bad effects of a small child. One night, Max Wolf carries his suit and made all sorts of things you should not, such as hunting with the dog with a fork. His mother scolds him and calls him a "Wild Thing!" Max is so crazy screaming again: "I'm going to eat" Consequently, his mother sends him to his room without supper.

Max imagination transformed his room in an exceptional environment, with sea and forest and a small sailboat on Max, until it reached a land of "Wild Things". Despite its appearance, and very hard, Max is able to tame a glance. Take all Max is "..the wildest of all," and make him their king. The monsters are also time creating a ruckus until Max begins his wish "... someone who loved him best of all." Max fantasy ends when you feel your dinner. Despite the protests of the wild things, Max travels found back to his room, where he is waiting for his dinner.

The book entitled

This is a particularly attractive story, because Max is in conflict with his mother and his own anger. Although he always angry when he sent in his room, Max did not continue his antics. Instead, there are no limits to their feelings of anger about his imagination, then to make a decision that is not going to let his anger separates him from those he loves and who love him, it comes.

Max is a lovable character. Their actions to follow the dog to you are to speak to his mother realistic. Your emotions are also realistic. It is very common for children to tease and fantasize about what you could do if you ruled the world and to calm down and think about the consequences. Max is the easily identified 3-6 years child.

Summarize

In summary, the Wild Things Are is an excellent book. What makes a book so extraordinary is the creative imagination of Maurice Sendak, both writer and artist Maurice Sendak. (To learn more about it, see my article of the art and the influence of Maurice Sendak) .The text and pictures complement each other that are perfect along the history. The transformation of Max's room a forest is a visual delight. The illustrations in pen and ink color Sendak are in soft colors at the same time humorous and sometimes a little scary what both the imagination of Max and his anger. The issues of conflict and the characters are those with whom readers can identify all ages. I also know from personal experience that it hear a book that children can enjoy again and again. In the utopian rules Giver all aspects of life in a specified language to speak (for the first time the word "love", because it is too vague and meaningless) to the dreams and feelings to share daily tips Family. In this climate perfect world births are regulated, and each was given a mission on the basis of ability. Couples couples and examined and evaluated applications for children. The elderly are honored excuses are needed (and accept excuses).

Author Lois Lowry

Lois Lowry has his first book, A Summer to die at the age of forty, written in 1977. Since then he has written more than thirty books for children and youth, combating serious issues often debilitating illnesses, the Holocaust and repressive governments. The winner of two Newbery Medals and other awards, runs Lowry, the kind of stories that they feel represents their views on human writing.

Lowry explains: "My books are varied in content and style, however, it seems that they are all of substantially the same general topic, the importance of human relationships." (Source: Website of Lois Lowry). Born in Hawaii, Lowry, the second of three children, each pulling his army dentist father. He raised his own family of four Maine, but lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where he continues to write.

Price: Donor

Over the years numerous awards Lois Lowry has accumulated for his books, but the most prestigious are the two Newbery Medal for the Stars (1990) and the transmitter (1994). In 2007 the American Library Association has honored Lowry with A. Edwards Award for life contribution to literature Margaret.

Controversy, challenges and censorship: the transmitter

Despite the many awards Giver, he reacted with sufficient resistance to the list of most frequently challenged books of 1990-1999 and 2000-2009 years and put ban on the American Library Association. The controversy over the book focuses on two topics: suicide and euthanasia. If a minor character determines that they no longer bear her life, she asked to be "liberated".

To be "liberated", are killed in the world of the encoder must. According to an article in USA Today, opponents argue that the book Lowry (Source: USA Today), "explain that suicide is not a solution for the problems of life.". In addition to concerns about suicide, opponents of the book criticizing the handling of Lowry euthanasia. In the transmitter, if the members of the weaknesses of the municipality or current weaknesses, which will be released the community.

Supporters of the book counter such criticism by saying that the children exposed to social problems that make them more to think analytically governments, personal choice, and relationships. When she asked his opinion of the book that responded Lowry forbids: "I think that banning books is very, very dangerous eliminating an important freedom Whenever there is an attempt to ban a book as hard as possible to fight ... It is normal for a parent to say. ". I do not want my child reading the book "But it was not for anyone who is trying to make this decision is portrayed for the world in the other Giver a world where the choice away It's a scary world we will work hard to avoid is actually happening "(Source: Website of Lois Lowry) ...

The Quartet and the donor film

While the encoder can be read as an independent book company Lowry wrote books to explore further the sense of community. Blue Meeting (published in 2000) presents readers with Kira, a young orphan paralyzed girl with a gift for sewing. Messenger published in 2004, it is the story of Mattie, introduced for the first time in the Blue Meeting as a friend of Kira. In autumn 2012, son Lowry was published. Son is the grand finale in the books of the donor Lois Lowry.

The cast of the film version of The Giver (release date: August 15, 2014) includes Brenton Thwaites, Jeff Bridges and Meryl Streep. In an article about the feelings of the Lowry in the film the author discusses meet the producers. "The only thing that was most impressive was that everyone enjoyed the book. Even if a film is something other than a book and some changes must be made, all had to be on the book and the maintenance of dedicated, which tried the book say and think that they have done successfully "(Source: Interview SheKnows Shanee Edwards) ..

My recommendation: The encoder

Let yourself be fooled by the low thickness of the book; It is a deep and reflective reading. I read the giver of my youth, when my typical reserve consists of historical and realistic fiction. Read This dystopian about a futuristic society was a journey of reading outside my area of expertise; It was a book that changed my mind a story and took Jonas society does not bother me.

Be disturbed or disrupted by a book, I think it is a sign of great literature, as it means that the players motivated, relating to the content. Lowry is very careful in creating this utopian community, and allows readers to form their own opinions and draw their own conclusions on social issues and the results are aware in some parts of his story ended open. A player is free to interpret for themselves the direction of history.

Certainly, when I saw this book as an adult, I had a lot more experience to me to understand the world of the encoder. As an adult, knew more about the different types of governments and their roles, had more life experience in the back pocket in terms of personal decision, and I was able to better analyze why a company can choose to live with the rigidity and similarity.

As Jonas and donors to discuss what is happening in their society Jonas said. "We have people really bad choice protected" The donor response is shockingly clear that the reason why the government eliminated the possibility to choose, because " It's safer. "Again Lowry offers readers an observation of the community, without trial.

The encoder is a powerful book with all the elements of a classic in the tradition of stories from 1984 Orwell and Fahrenheit 451 Bradbury oppressive governments to stifle the freedom and reproduce color empty monotonous life they are cautionary tales that remind us value the human relationships and personal decision. I recommend this book for readers to win 12 or more. The book is very popular with the students. (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, traditional hardcover, 2012 ISBN: 9780547995663, Film Tie-In Pocket, 2014. What you need to know about Banning children & # 039 white; Books

Challenges are underway

Many people think that the challenges censorship and banning of books, are things that happened in the distant past. This is certainly not the case, as you will see from my report in 2012 banned books in the Book of censorship.

Why do people want to ban books?

If even the books in question is usually for reasons that the content of the book is detrimental to the reader. After ALA, four motivators:
  • Family Values
  • Religion
  • Political views
  • Minority rights.
The age group for which a book will not guarantee that someone is not trying to censor. Although the focus seems to the challenges for children and young adults (YA) to be books, attempting also attached to restrict access to certain books for adults. Most complaints are made by parents and they go to public libraries and schools.

The First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States

The First Amendment of the US Constitution: "Congress shall make no law to make an establishment of religion, or free exercise forbids or freedom of speech or the press, or the right of people to assemble peacefully and the government for a redress of grievances to. "

Parents Against Bad Books in School

PABBIS (parents against bad books at the school), is just one of a number of parent groups across the country to challenge children and young adults books in the classroom and in schools and public libraries. These parents are also going to want to restrict access to certain books for their own children; You are trying to restrict access of children by parents and somehow restricted to one or several books removed from the shelves of the library, or have access to the books.

What do you think?

Subsection in public libraries and intellectual freedom on the web site of the American Library Association,
  • "It is appropriate for parents to perform the reading, watching television, and the exposure of their children to the media as they want. The public library can assist advisory services in this process by providing readers. The lists of books and thus related services may what we do in a positive, proactive library act in place of the parents - and not the parents - either by limiting access to the materials or services purely on the basis of age of the user or parenterally dictated Attempts controls apply ".
