My recomendation
I would use this book in many ways. Firstly, for children 4-8, the poems without the mutual use of the images, my children, to visualize their imagination what they hear, had read. Later, I'd like to share poems and pictures together. Still later, we went back and looked at it carefully and discuss how the artist interprets the poetry.
For example, after reading "Fog" Sandburg loudly for himself, I read it again, and at the same time the images. Then we would come back and talk about the gentle way represented the first two lines: "The fog is / in little cat feet, and we would see that the fog is actually in the shape of a cat in his presentation.
Even babies enjoy listening to poetry and preschoolers are the illustrations to enjoy. Older children and adults are also listening to read poetry aloud or to yourself and enjoy the unique artwork by Melissa Sweet, construct meaning from what they see and hear.
More seasonal Children Poetry
I also recommend parts: one year, in poems and quilts Anna Grossnickle Hines. Hines has also written and illustrated Winter Lights: A Season in Poems and Quilts, one of the three books that I count is in my overview of poetry books for children in winter.
For stories about the seasons, and then to see that it is spring and the other books on my book preview Gardens of the top 11 children. For fall, I recommend a man and leaf peepers. For the winter I have put together the best books for children snow.
