Definition: A picture book picture book is a book in which the images are as important as (or even more important than) the words to say, the story. Picture books are usually 32 pages, though few Golden Books have 24 pages. In picture books, there are illustrations on every page, or one of each pair of opposite sides. While most are written picture books for children, in recent years they have released a number of excellent books for readers in primary and secondary schools.
The terms "biography book images" and "the history of the illustrated book" refers to non-fiction books written and illustrated the picture book format.
The definition of "picture book" greatly expands when Brian Selznick won the Caldecott Medal 2008 for picture book illustrations for his book The Invention of Hugo Cabret, a 525-page novel medium quality, which tells the story of a series of successive images (more than 280 pages sets throughout the book) as well as the words of Selznick.
